In 2008 Jeannie Simms took a journey to the island of Java in Indonesia. Over the course of one month she spent time interviewing and collaborating with women training to be live-in maids in Taiwan who will earn about $500 US per month.

Readymaids is performance, video pieces, photographs, conversation and social theater taking place inside a maid training agency in Indonesia, a country where thousands of women every year are given employment and “cultural” training to become migrant domestic workers throughout Asia and the Middle East. Works were created with maids-in-training , agency staff and workers.
